Systemic flaws have been identified in Western Australia’s Working with Children Check system, notably allowing individuals to work with children while their application is pending.

Child Protection Advocate Hetty Johnston, speaking to 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl, emphasised the need for states to collaborate and establish a nationally consistent system.

“What’s more important,” she said, “are we just going to stay in our little silos and say we’re the best, or are we going to actually look at what everybody else is doing, pick the bones of it, find the best of everything and settle on something that is a nationally consistent way that Australia protects its children?”
