Civilian gun ownership has reached a record high of 4 million nationwide, up 25% since 1996, despite statistics showing overwhelming public demand for stricter control.

Commenting on the situation, Rod Campbell, Research Director of The Australia Institute, told Perth Today host Simon Beaumont:.

“If any silver lining can come out of this week’s tragedy, it would be returning the attention of governments to gun law reform,” he said.
