City of Perth staff want its council to reintroduce paid parking at night, proposing a $5 fee for parking at CBD hotspots including His Majesty’s, the State Library, Convention Centre, and Concert Hall.

City of Perth councillor Brent Fleeton told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live, “This is a draft idea from the admin team because there’s quite a few pressures in this business.”

“I will strongly make the case that we have done almost four years of hard work to build this free parking in the city and it would be a very serious error to get rid of that. But I do understand why the city is proposing some other changes, I haven’t made up my mind yet.”

“It’s this balancing act that we have to play between, ensuring it’s cheap enough to keep people coming in but also making sure this business is strong and profitable into the future,” Cr Fleeton continued.
