The City of Cottesloe has held a special electors meeting in its chambers to discuss the local planning scheme within its jurisdiction.

More than 100 residents within the area signed a petition to scrap the scheme to avoid development on Marine Parade in Cottesloe.

Cottesloe resident Katie Mason supports the proposal for re-development and says she was unprepared for the response of other rate payers.

“It was very intimidating for my first council experience,” she said. “Even though the Mayor asked for there to be no booing, I was booed.”

The development includes structures such as the Ocean Beach Hotel and the Indiana Tearooms.

Mrs Mason says she backs the proposal for re-development.

“I think it’s amenities we desperately need in the area. As a resident, as someone that’s building a family home of a place that I want to bring up my boys and live for the next 30 to 40 years, I’m pretty passionate about where I want to live and I think it’s time for an upgrade,” she told Perth LIVE.
