The head of prestigious boys’ school Christ Church Grammar is calling for the abolition of unconditional early offers to university, blaming them for students slacking off in their final months of Year 12.

Unconditional offers allow students to finish Year 11 with an offer in March or April, irrespective of what they do for the remainder of the year.

Principle of CCGS, Alan Jones, told 6PR Breakfast these types of offers do not teach students the correct way to push through.

“It’s about life skills, resilience and showing a strong work ethic,” Mr Jones said.

“If you suddenly take your foot off the pedal and you thrust into a university environment, the student will potentially not be ready.”
