Volunteer group Comms Declare have launched a campaign calling on Chevron to be dumped as sponsor of the National Australia Day Council.

Founder of Comms Declare, Belinda Noble, told Oly Peterson on Perth Live that sponsorships of this sort are bad for democracy.

“It gives [Chevron] more political power at the big end of town,” Ms Noble said.

“There’s always other sponsors… other companies that will come in… and we hope there will be other companies that come in and support Australia Day.”

“I personally don’t believe that Chevron’s values are Australia’s values… I don’t believe a multinational company that’s one of the biggest carbon polluters in history, represents what it means to be Australian.”
