A fire has broken out at old Parliament House in Canberra.

Firefighters are responding and police are on the scene.

Protesters near the site can reportedly be heard chanting “let it burn”.

It’s not known if the fire was intentionally lit.

Last week, a fire at the front door of Old Parliament House saw the museum forced to close.

Caller Rick told 6PR Mornings there were protesters at the site yesterday.

“As we arrived, the front entrance was all on fire.”

He said the damage will be quite extensive, given the wall of flames and smoke.
