Seriously ill Australians will soon be able to access medicinal cannabis more quickly with the Federal Government now allowing local companies to legally import the drug.

The move will make it easier for patients to access the drug with Australia expected to have a continuous supply of medicinal cannabis within eight weeks.

Medicinal cannabis campaigner Lucy Haslam says the decision is a step in the right direction.
