The Belmont Resident and Ratepayer Action group has called for the City of Belmont of livestream their council meetings to make them more accessible to members of the public.

It comes after Local Government Minister John Carey Slammed Belmont and other councils who were refusing to provide the service to their residents.

President of the Action Group, Lisa Hollands, says there’s no reason why councils shouldn’t live stream their meetings.

“I think it’s important for transparency,” she said on 6PR Breakfast.

“To get more residents involved in what happens in local government.

“And in Belmont we’ve been trying for several years that I’m aware of, and it comes up each year at the electors meeting and then it’s knocked back at the following meeting.

“Nobody’s interested at Belmont, it’s as simple as that.”
