Former New Zealand prime minister Helen Clark has called for drug use to be decriminalised.

Senior Lecturer of Addiction at Edith Cowan University Dr Stephen Bright told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live illicit substances should be regulated like alcohol.

“There’s simply no evidence that incarcerating people for drug use issues leads to any reduction in drug use in society,” said Dr Bright.

“It’s the war that can’t be won… we need to take an alternative approach.”
