The soaring price of copper has fuelled escalating theft, a problem costing one demolition company about $100,000 a year.

Merit Consulting Group managing director Steve King told 6PR Drive host Jamie Burnett about the extreme risks people take to steal the copper, saying the thieves are no longer opportunistic, but are now targeted and organised.

“It’s got to the stage where probably 80 per cent of our demolition projects we will not put any value to the copper in our tender. We just don’t expect it to be there”, he said.
