The owner of a liquor store in the city says he’s at his wits end trying to deal with escalating violence by groups of people entering his shop to steal products.

Security footage shows one incident at the Barrack Street Bottlemart on January 26th where a group of people were shoplifting, throwing chairs, and fighting with Bhushan Raval when he tried to confront them.

Mr Raval told Gary Adshead despite calling triple zero, police didn’t follow up until the next morning and are only now investigating after he shared his story on Nine News.

“This year it has gotten worse – it’s significantly affecting the morale and safety of our staff,” Mr Raval said.

“I rely on the police, to be honest, to deal with it – but there’s not much else I can do.”
