A proposal has emerged to increase the GST from 10% to 15%, aiming to shift the tax burden from workers and inject billions of dollars into the budget.

Kate Chaney, Member for Curtin, informed Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that low-income earners would benefit from an accompanying offset.

She stated, “No one ever wants to talk about it, but we’re trying to talk about tax reform with one hand tied behind our back if we’re not also looking at changes we could make to the GST.”
