The youngest ever entrant in the Australian Hotels Association of WA best steak sandwich competition has now become the youngest finalist.

On Monday 6PR Breakfast revealed Eastern Hills Senior High student Dom Lenard’s stint as a part-time kitchen hand at Loosefoot Saloon in Wundowie saw him create the venue’s steak sandwich entry for the annual competition, which judges have deemed worthy of being one of four finalists in the regional category of the popular competition.

Dom found himself in the kitchen cooking the steak sandwich after the kitchenhand was promoted to chef when COVID-19 hit other restaurant staff.

The general public judges the best steak sandwich in a live cook-off at the end of June.

“I just gotta keep my head up, stay confident, stay humble and just do my best really and see what happens,” he told Breakfast host Gareth Parker about the live cook-off.
