‘Beggars belief’: Secrecy over WA transition plans and modelling slammed

Opposition leader Mia Davies said the public and regional communities in particular were scratching their heads over what life would be like once WA opens its border.

“We’re three weeks out from the 5th of Feb and we actually don’t know what’s going to happen,” she told 6PR Mornings host Liam Bartlett

“They won’t even release the modelling of the Omnicron variant, showing the peaks and when we can expect to see any changes.

“As we know, the 5th of February date was set around the Delta variant modelling, and we had to drag that out of the government, if you recall, before Christmas.

“It’s definitely not good enough and all it does is increase the anxiety in the community, where there’s a void of information, where we’ve had so much time to prepare … it beggars belief.

“I’m very concerned that we’re not seeing the government being forthcoming with this information.”

The government’s short response to the Mornings program drew a gasp of shock from Ms Davies.

“Transition measures will be finalised in the lead up to February 5, when we know about the impact of Omnicron,” its statement said.
