The future of a proposed primary school in East Perth is up in the air after the Education Minister revealed talk of purchasing the site in the city of Perth did occur.

Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas claims the State Government has reneged on its initial offer to pay more than 40 million dollars for two parcels of land near the WACA, but now wants a transfer of ownership at no cost.

Education Minister Tony Buti says correspondence to the City outlining why the Government would buy the land was a mistake.

“I think there was a letter that the Lord Mayor read that said ‘purchase’; it should not have been in there,” Mr Buti said.
