‘Basic human right’: Why a dad is pushing for changes to the ACROD guidelines

Millsy & Karl

The father of a 21-year old man with autism says they believe legislative change is needed after they were knocked back from receiving an ACROD parking permit.

Birtan Erkut says his son, Taylen, who requires at times, two-on-one support has been knocked back because the laws regarding the guidelines are “archaic”.

“They clearly state that it needs to be a mobility disability condition, so like a wheelchair or a similar medical aid, the only exception they make is for the visually impaired,” he told 6PR.
