Born into privilege, Tom Penglis admits his father had a tougher upbringing than he did, but he found himself in prison in 2019 despite the benefits privilege gave him.

He started taking drugs while in high school, and by the time he was doing an undergraduate degree, he was selling drugs.

“I did my entire undergraduate while I was a drug addict …  I guess that’s part of the reason why I was able to mask the fact that I was a drug addict was because I was able to keep up my academic performance,” he told Julie-anne Sprague.
