Australian teachers urged to lift their game on discipline

Millsy & Karl

Described as the UK’s strictest head mistress, Katharine Birbalsingh believes fixing the behaviour crisis in Australia’s schools requires a committed focus on discipline, better classroom management skills for teachers, and building cohesive school cultures.

“What we need to understand is if there’s lots of disruption in the lesson, the children simply can’t learn,” she told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.

“Imagine how much work they’d get done in the same hour lesson as the lesson next door in an hour where the kids are misbehaving.”

“You all in Australia, you’ve been falling down… I know you are 70th of 77 countries for behaviour climate in the classrooms.”
