Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced plans for flights out of Israel for Australians wanting to leave the country in the wake of the Hamas attack.

He also announced the safe return of Australian journalist Cheng Lei back into the country from China, after she was taken into custody back in August 2020 by Chinese state security and held in a Beijing prison.

Nine Federal Political Reporter Michael Pachi told Oly Peterson on 6PR’s Perth Live there’s no doubt that some of the work the PM did in raising concerns about Cheng Lai and other detained Australians directly with the Chinese President and Premier played a part in Lei’s release.
