The AusAlert system launches in October, designed to warn Australians of emergencies such as bushfires, floods and natural hazards via a 10-second siren on connected devices.

Testing is underway across the country this month, with Goomalling serving as the Western Australian trial site.

Goomalling Shire President Julie Chester told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont she is keen to see how the trial performs, given the region’s limited mobile network.

“Mobile coverage is pretty hit and miss, so I actually don’t know how this is going to work”, she said.
