Artists replace plaques on WA statues to ‘rewrite history’

A group of artists have attempted to replace plaques on statues in the Perth CBD in an attempt to re-write history and highlight the ‘absurdity of White Australia’.
The plaques were under statues of Captain John Stirling and John Septimus Roe, and read ‘he belongs in a museum. Not on our streets’.
The people behind the artist collective, who declined the opportunity to explain their actions to 6PR listeners, said in a statement that “our city like others around the globe has ignored every cry to find a resolution so we have found one for them,”.
6PR producer Sophie Hawkins told Gareth Parker on Mornings the plaques have now been removed.
