Another hit for pub owners and operators

As of today the price of a pint at your local pub is expected to rise. Australia has the fourth-highest tax on beer in the world, leading the Australian Hotels Association, Clubs Australia and the Brewers Association to launch a national campaign to cut the tax hike and support the already suffering hospitality industry.

“Pub and club owners, they’ve had two terrible years, a billion dollars in lost beer sales in 2020, another billion dollars last year and then many people hoped this would be the period that they would recover and instead Omicron has meant their sales are down on last year,” CEO Brewers Association, John Preston told Perth Live.

“It’s really hitting them hard, they’re struggling with staff, they’re struggling with increased costs and now a tax increase and this is the largest tax increase in 10 years.=

“We want the Government to cut quite significantly the draught beer tax. We want that reduced by 50% and that would really make a difference for pub owners and operators.”
