A 63-year-old Tasmanian woman has given birth to her first child, after receiving IVF treatment overseas, angering Australian fertility specialists.

AMA President Dr Michael Gannon expressed his outrage on Twitter: ’63yo woman has #ivf baby. Greater priorities in #womenshealth. Child starts life in NICU. Anyone thought ahead to its teens? Selfish, wrong.’

Professor Michael Chapman is the President of the Fertility Society of Australia, and he’s told Gary Adshead that no fertility clinic in Australia would have given a woman of that age IVF treatment.
