RSL WA chief executive Stephen Barton told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that Grayden signed up for the war underage, following the example of his father who had served at Gallipoli in World War I.
“He was so inspired by his father’s example he tried to enlist in ’39 but he was too young. He changed his first name, lied about his age and got in because he saw it as his duty to serve,” he said.
