Amateur meteorite hunter uncovers WA’s mysterious Mother’s Day fireball

A two-hour drive and a search through dense bush led an amateur meteorite hunter to discover the impact zone of a meteorite that entered the WA atmosphere on Mother’s Day.

Marcus Scott, Ravensthorpe police officer, is the amateur meteorite hunter and explains to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont how he found the tennis ball-sized rock on a salt lake.
“It’s good to find the space rocks at any stage but one that’s only been on the Earth for seven days is very unique,” he said.
