AMA warns that WA needs to brace for the ‘beginning’ of the pandemic

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) says WA residents should prepare for the “beginning” of the pandemic in their state.

It comes as Premier Mark McGowan is poised to imminently make an announcement on the reopening of WA’s borders.

“Essentially what we’re getting is we’re inviting the virus into the state,” AMA WA President Dr Mark Duncan-Smith said on 6PR Mornings.

“And what people need to understand is that this basically not the end of COVID for Western Australia, not the end of the pandemic, it’s actually the beginning.

“So we’re going to need to look at measures … that we were (subject) to in lockdowns for example.”
