National Cabinet may extend pandemic leave payments past the end of the month however there will now be an audit of the system.

The $540 five-day payment scheme has so far cost $2.2 billion.

Michael Pachi, National Political Editor told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that at today’s press conference, Albanese did hint at the possibility of extending the payments.

“What Anthony Albanese is saying, if various states still have isolation rules in place, which are forced or mandated, you essentially still need to pay people,” Mr Pachi said.

Michael Pachi did reinforce that only people without access to sick leave will be granted these payments.
