A new report has unveiled just how much pressure school principals are under, with almost half flagging incidents of violence, health issues and effects to quality of life.

The 2022 Australian Principal Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing Survey found that rates of bullying, violence and abuse was reaching alarming levels, and has continued to increase year by year.

WA Primary Principals’ Association president Neil Smith told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast the basic duties of school principals has become more difficult as expectations on school staff has changed.

Senior Lecturer of Educational Leadership at Australian Catholic University Dr Paul Kidson told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings there has to be significant structural change to deal with the issues.

“Overwhelmingly, it doesn’t matter if you’re in a government school, catholic school or independent school, the signs are that we’re returning to a really poor level of offensive behaviours,” Dr Kidson said.
