In their first active month, AI-enabled safety cameras have recorded a staggering 31,000 infringements, an average of 1,000 a day.

Police Minister Reece Whitby explained to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that while the reduced numbers compared to the trial period are encouraging, far too many people are still driving carelessly on WA roads, necessitating the use of these cameras to deter the behaviour.

“There will always be idiots out there, there will always be people who feel an entitlement to do as they please and put others lives at risk as well as their own,” Whitby stated.

Simon then posed a question to James Ward, Content Director at drive.com.au: “Are car designs making us more complacent?”
