AFL CEO officially announces Tasmanian team

The Long Lunch

The AFL boss has formally announced Tasmania will be home to the League’s 19th team.

The AFL men’s team is expected to enter the competition in 2028, with a women’s team entry to be worked through shortly.

AFL Chief Executive Gillon McLachlan described it as a “historic” day for football, saying Tasmania “belongs” in the national competition.

Later this year a community campaign will select the brand of the new club including name, logo, guernsey and song.
