Acting Commissioner urges caution as Cleo Smith investigation continues

Acting Police Commissioner Col Blanch says “there is a long way to go” into the investigation of the alleged abduction of Cleo Smith, and has urged caution while charges have been laid.
It comes as forensic investigators spend more time at the home where the four-year-old girl was rescued last week, paying particular attention to a car parked in the driveway.
But the Acting Commissioner was tight-lipped as to how the investigation was progressing.
“I’ve got to be clear with this investigation … the police are back at work doing an investigation, we’ve charged a man … we’ve really got to be careful about what we say because (a man is) before the courts,” he told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.
However, he did not rule out additional charges being laid against the accused abductor Terence Kelly.
“I suppose that’s part of the investigation, that’s not something that I’ve been briefed on at the moment, but I would never say never,” he said.
“There is along way to go about piecing together what has happened.
“But again the important thing for us is to not speculate, and let the court process take its course.”
