A dog refuge owner has taken matters into his own hands after a dog was left locked in a home for more than 12 days following the tenants’ departure.

Press PLAY to hear Kevin Ontilt discuss the alarming rise in abandoned dogs

Kevin Ontilt from K9 Refuge told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that he had to unscrew the fence latch and enter the property without permission to rescue the animal.

Prepared to face the repercussions of his actions, Ontilt said that the situation is sadly not an isolated one.

“Everyone is stretched to the limit with rescue dogs. Around Australia, it’s a pandemic of people abandoning dogs, it’s a very very serious situation and more needs to be done”, he said.
