The race that stops the nation will be run tomorrow and race caller Matt Hill is doing his final preparations.

“I reckon this year’s is just about the strongest Melbourne Cup we’ve seen, it’s really tough,” Hill told 6PR Breakfast.

Flemington will look different this year with crowds banned due to Coronavirus restrictions, Hill says he will miss the buzz of the crowd.

“This year has been completely shattered obviously, but the two ways I’m looking at it; yes, it’s different and it’s weird, the only think I can actually hear is the helicopter over the race course the whole day,” Hill said.

“But then at the same time being the Melbourne Cup… it’s going to stop the nation like no other this year.
“It means so much to our country and boy, we need just a little bit of entertainment for this year.”
