A decade of devotion: Blind listener Des says a tearful thank-you to his retiring seeing-eye dog, Champ
International Seeing Eye Dog Day held special significance for 6PR listener Des.
Des, who is 100 per cent blind, was marking the retirement of his beloved seeing-eye dog, Champ, who is 12 years old.

6PR Long Lunch host Tod Johnston invited Champ and Des to the studio for the emotional day as Champ formally laid down the leash, passing his duties to the new pup.
“It’s very, very hard. He’s still going to be with me, he’s not going anywhere, but I’m getting a new dog,” he said.
Tod also thanked Matt Wood from Vision Australia for the great work they do training these amazing dogs.
