Article image for ‘A bit harsh’: Sumich quits prime newspaper role over Harley Reid spat

Eagles legend and recently-established columnist Peter Sumich has quit his popular position as sports columnist for The West Australian over their often-confusing coverage of West Coast rookie Harley Reid.

Mr Sumich told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast he had written an article on Reid which he says did not provide glowing support, much like other articles in the newspaper.

“They pulled it on me, saying it was a bit harsh,” Mr Sumich said.

“We’ve heard all this stuff about him being the next Chris Judd, and my point is, well, how do you know all this when he hasn’t even played in the team yet?”
