With the deadline for 24/7 nursing in aged care facilities approaching, the body overseeing the industry has laid out a refusal to punish facilities who do not meet the requirements.

Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner Janet Anderson told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings she would be “beyond surprised” if care facilities specifically closed down because of the new legislation.

“We’ve been absolutely clear to the sector that non-compliance with the new responsibilities – if a service is trying hard and delivering safe quality care – will not result in any decision on our part that will cause a service to close its doors,” Ms Anderson said.

“It’s just not going to happen.”
