Jim Eames, one of Australia’s first aviation authors and a true aeroplane enthusiast, has written a new book detailing the history of the Boeing 747.

“50 years for an aeroplane and given the number of people it has carried, I guess there are very few aeroplane that go into the soul like the 747,” Jim Eames told 6PR.

“The size of it, it was so big at the time that people were in awe of it and the other thing about it Oly – it was so safe, at the end of the day the aeroplane had very few fatal accidents.”
