This week’s West Aussie Great is triple Olympian and member of Australia’s first Olympic gold medal-winning hockey team, Sharon Buchanan.

She is about to be a mentor for athletes as part of being in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, ‘helping athletes achieve their dream’.

Buchanan told Gareth Parker that her love for hockey came from her family.

“My mum she’s one of my sporting idols, and she was into hockey,” she said.

“I’d follow her along to hockey and loved it from the moment I arrived at a hockey pitch.”
