The Hay Street Malls has shut it’s street to cars for years.

The Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas claims there is some property owners in the Hay Street Mall that would like to see a return of a mixed-use arrangement that would allow vehicles through the area.

“Don’t get too concerned there are not immediate plans to rip up Hay Street Mall, it is not on councils agenda or a plan that is anything further advanced than a discussion,” Basil Zempilas told Oliver Peterson Perth Live.

“We are always working with property owners all over the City, in particular some of the areas that need some more attention and the Hay Street Mall is one of those.”

He further highlighted that this is purely a conversation at this stage, discussing the reasons on why they can and can’t consider the idea and the possibility of a partial re-opening.
