LONG WAY TO THE TOP : Tour Blog

Disaster was on the horizon, just two days in to Millsy’s Long Way to the Top tour.

After two successful days of broadcasting behind him, Steve Mills, on a five-week radio road trip from some of the most remote towns in Australia, would’ve been feeling confident.

An outsider with his colleagues to return to Perth without incident, Mills must have felt his odds slashed to 3/1 on the back of two trouble-free shows in Karratha and Roeburne, broadcasting from his luxury Jayco caravan, with wife Tricia in tow capturing all the action behind the scenes.

Lucky she was there, for as you can see in the video below, Millsy forgot to turn the gas and solar on and drain his battery while broadcasting.

“Will I be in Marble Bar tomorrow, I don’t know, God willing, fingers crossed,” he says.

Thankfully two fans of the show, Peter and Erica Alers, were on hand to lend Millsy their trusty heavy duty jumper leads.

Before the drama, Millsy was in Roeburne broadcasting from the Ganalili Centre, where he witnessed a special Welcome to Country smoking ceremony and bumped into ex-Freo Docker Troy Cook, who works with the Waalitj Foundation.

He spoke with Annette Peterson, resident artist at the Cossack Art Exhibition.

Millsy is on air daily from 12pm to 3pm, capturing the qualities of each town and the people that make them tick, with his journey detailed in his Long Way to the Top tour blog, which we’ll update after each broadcast.

Roebourne Regional Prison Superintendent Neville Wall (below) also joined Millsy in Roeburne and shared his love of the community and extra-curricular activities that make the town popular with young families.

What could go wrong? Well plenty has already, and he’s only just gone to air!
