Albo aims for harmony from state premiers at first National Cabinet meeting

Simon Beaumont

The dynamic between state premiers somewhat overshadowed the first National Cabinet meeting under new Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Friday.

Mark McGowan was addressing journalists in Canberra when NSW counterpart and constant adversary Dominic Perrottet began fielding questions from reporters just metres away, leaving the WA premier bemused and apologising for the “distraction”.

He also said a national gas reserve was an idea the Albanese government should explore to tackle the current gas price crisis.

Nine Radio’s national political editor Michael Pachi told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings that while the GST, skilled worker shortage and health funding arrangements led the official agenda, Albanese was equally focused on ensuring state leaders had constructive debate after several public spats during the election campaign.
