Travel plans have been thrown into the air for many Aussies booked to fly with Qatar Airways, after a number of Arab nations closed their borders to Qatar over links to terrorism.

It means the airline will be forced out of much of the airspace it usually flies through, with lengthy diversions over Iran instead.
