WA MP stands firm over Parliament ban for vaccine status refusal

Simon Beaumont

A West Australian MP is standing by her decision not to disclose her vaccination status.

The WA Parliament resumes today with a vaccination mandate in place for those who want to enter the chamber or their offices.

Liam Bartlett told his 6PR Mornings listeners that Legalise Cannabis Party MP Sophia Moermond had “joined the ranks of many in the state who are prevented from entering their workplace”.

Ms Moermond left WA Parliament quietly last night after she decided not to disclose her vaccination status.

She told Bartlett she was not prepared to breach her medical privacy or share her medical data with people who aren’t healthcare professionals.

“I’m a bit sad about that, obviously, I was put into that place by people who voted for me,” she said about being banned from Parliament.
