Eagle Bay fire downgraded, residents may be allowed to return to their homes today

6PR BREAKFAST

There’s been some welcome good news this morning for residents and holiday-makers in the Eagle Bay area, as the bushfire which engulfed the area is downgraded to a Watch and Act.

It comes after hundreds of residents were evacuated as firefighters battled the out-of-control blaze on Tuesday.

The fire is now contained, but not controlled, and burning embers are likely to be blown around properties.

Incident Controller Blake Moore said some areas are still shut.

“Cape Naturaliste is still shut,” he said on 6PR Breakfast.

“Conditions today, due to the winds and (temperatures), may test containment lines, and conditions are constantly changing today.

“We are putting a big effort into reinstating and clearing roads and making areas safe.

“And if possible our priority today is to make roads safe in that area, so for communities to potentially return back to their homes this evening.”
