Blowout in building times for new WA homes

A number of factors including intense labour demand, industrial disputes at Fremantle port and increasing material costs have led to a blowout in building times for new WA homes.

It’s estimated the time it takes to build a home is the longest it’s been in the last ten years.

WA Executive Director for the Housing Industry of Australia, Cath Hart, told Liam Bartlett the time gap from start to completion is the longest it’s been “in about a decade”.

“And that’s because those issues around labor and material supplies,” she said.

“So for the average project home, whilst it might have been 12 to 18 months, it’s more like 18 to 24 months now.”
