RUMOUR CONFIRMED: Council election decided by one vote doesn’t go to recount

RUMOUR CONFIRMED

There’s been a controversy in the local government elections with a council position in the South Ward at the City of Vincent being decided by one vote.

The slim margin was supposed to trigger a recount, but it never happened.

It comes as the City of Perth had a council position decided by seven votes which went to a recount.

Candidate Joshua O’Keefe who lost by the razor-thing margin said he’s looking into lodging an appeal with The Court of Disputed Returns.

“In this case, what should have happened happened, is the next day there should have been a whole new recount,” he told Mark Gibson on 6PR Breakfast.

“New scrutineers, new counters, everything redone from the beginning.

“It’s disappointing.”
