6PR listener Patricia believes a plumbing company was trying to rip her off by convincing her she needed extensive repair work done to her home.

Patricia thought she had a leaking water pipe and called out a plumber.

She was convinced she needed to replace all her water pipes and signed a $5600 contract and paid an $1100 deposit.

Upon further investigation with a different plumber she was told the problem could be fixed for just $300.

Patricia says she hopes her situation could act as a warning for consumers to be aware of plumbers trying to ‘up-sell’ work that they don’t really need.

The plumbing company involved with the initial contract has refunded the deposit and the work has been ceased.
