The State Government has released its findings from an inquiry into wage theft in WA.

Former Chief Commissioner of the WA Industrial relations commission Tony Beech found the likelihood of wage theft is higher in cafes and restaurants – contract cleaning – retail and horticulture.

Industrial Relations Minister Bill Johnston told Gareth Parker the Government will put in place reforms targeting businesses doing the wrong thing.

“For example, advertising a job lower than the award rate of pay and it’s very clear that the business has no intention of complying with the law,” he said.

“One of the things that Tony’s recommending here is that we ban the advertising of jobs below award rates and that’s a commonsense recommendation.”
