Martin Smoothy and his son Sam will leave Australia next week in the hope of completing the English Channel. 

On Thursday morning as the temperature dipped to 0.8C Martin and Sam both braved the freezing conditions to complete a training session in the water.

Martin told 6PR Breakfast ‘getting into the water was a new, fresh experience’.
